Unions supporting May 1 march for immigrant & workers rights

The union movement in the Twin Cities has given their support for this year’s march for immigrant & workers rights on May 1st at 3:30pm at Lake & Nicollet in Minneapolis. The Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation, which brings together almost all the unions in Minneapolis, endorsed the march at their April meeting. Many individual unions are also part of the march. AFSCME Council 5 — the union of 40,000 public sector workers in Minnesota, endorsed the march at their April executive board meeting. AFSCME Local 3800 (clerical workers at the U of M) and AFSCME Local 34 (Hennepin County workers), as well as AFSCME Next Wave (AFSCME’s young workers’ caucus), are also actively supporting the march. SEIU Health Care Minnesota (the union of more than 15,000 healthcare workers in hospitals and clinics around the state) has endorsed the march, and SEIU Local 26 (the union of over 4,000 janitors and security guards) is mobilizing as well. UNITE HERE Local 17 and United Transportation Union are supporting the march. The Minnesota Nurses Association (the union of 20,000 nurses in the state) endorsed the march as well. This year, the union movement in Minnesota is truly celebrating International Workers Day, May Day. Join the unions, the immigrant rights movement, and all who believe in justice for all workers to march on May 1st, International Workers Day!

Fraternalmente,
Movimiento Regeneracion Nacional (Morena)
Por una Nueva República, Justa, Democrática e Incluyente.

Regarding May 1st march
The political, social and labor demands, of the working class in this globalized economy, will always be the same ones: freedom of association, egalitarian and dignified treatment, medical coverage and access to social programs, and programs of education, without ignoring a wage with dignity according to the profit of the working place. The importance of our participation in the International Worker’s Day is to rescue the historic memory of those who have given their own lives for a better future of the working class, we pay tribute and flutter our flags of struggle with the Martyrs of Chicago.
Sincerely,
National Regeneration Movement (MORENA in Spanish)
For a Democratic, Just, and Inclusive New Republic

Statement from Communities United Against Police Brutality: All Out for May 1st!

(Español abajo)

Communities United Against Police Brutality endorses and supports the May 1 March for Immigrant & Worker rights because applying the label of “illegal” to people encourages racial profiling and gives racist police a weapon to destroy families and oppress the community.  Labeling people “illegal” allows businesses to exploit people, paying them lower wages and abusing their rights. No person should ever be deemed “illegal.”  We stand with our immigrant brothers and sisters to demand rights and justice for all immigrants and workers.

Communities United Against Police Brutality will be at the march on May 1st providing security for marchers. We will ensure that marchers will be not abused or picked up by the police.

Gather at 3:30pm at Lake Street & Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis

May 1st is coming! We need to build the spirit of unity and solidarity to stop the attacks coming down from the politicians against immigrants, workers, unions, women, LGBTQ people, and more. Join us to build a united movement on May 1, 2012!

This year is the 126th anniversary of International Workers Day on May 1st. We’re marking the occasion by having a big march of unions, workers, immigrants, students, community groups and religious groups all joining together to stand up for immigrant & workers rights

On Tuesday, May 1 at 3:30pm we’ll march together starting at Lake Street & Nicollet Ave. in Minneapolis. We need you to help us make it a success. We’re building a big coalition to demand justice for workers, unions and immigrants. We’re all under serious attack by the politicians in Washington and here in Minnesota. We can only win if we unite in solidarity. We’re demanding justice for workers and unions, and legalization & full equality for immigrants and all workers.
